Weekend Lamp Making Course

This is a 2 day course on the 27th - 28th June 

Over two days, students will design and hand-build a one-of-a-kind ceramic lamp base, learning essential hand-building techniques while creating a functional and sculptural object for the home.

The course takes students from initial inspiration and drawings through to making, final assembly and glazing. At the end of the course, each student will have a finished ceramic lamp base, with the option to have their base professionally fitted with electrical components (at an extra cost). Once at home they will simply need to choose their own lampshade so that their lamp is ready to use and keep forever.

What’s included:

1) Teaching & studio time

- 12 hours over two days guided sessions 

- Demonstrations, guidance and individual support

- Access to studio tools

2) Clay allowance

- 3kg of clay per person included in the course fee

- Additional clay available to purchase at an extra cost

3) Glazes & firings

- Bisque firing and glaze firing for the final lamp base

- Studio glaze options suitable for functional homeware

 4) Lamp hardware & electrical assembly (if you selected that extra option - can be chosen at the end of the course) 

- Lamp hardware included (lamp holder, cable, switch, plug and fittings)

- Planning for cable exits and fittings during the making process

- Final installation of lamp hardware and electrical assembly carried out by a specialist

Once pieces have been finished and fired, they will be professionally wired for those who have selected that option.  

Final collection may take place 4-5 weeks after the final session, depending on kiln and wiring schedules.

Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee that all pieces will survive the making and firing process. Ceramics is a very unpredictable medium to work with. In the unlikely event of accidents in the kiln, we do not offer refunds for breakages and damages to pieces made in the kiln. We will evidently do everything in our power to avoid such situations.
